Hi Everyone,
Last month I mentioned we’d have some big news and here it is: Jeremy Leggett has joined the advisory board of Brighton Energy Co-op.
This is a major step forward for us – Jeremy is probably the biggest figure in British solar. As well as being CEO of Solar Century, the largest solar installer in the country, Jeremy is part of the UK Industry Taskforce on Peak Oil and Energy Security and part of Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room. He’s the author or several books and represented Greenpeace at the Kyoto Protocol discussions in 1992.
Jeremy’s involvement increases our ability to communicate with a wider audience and deepens our understanding of how the solar business works in general. It also gives community energy a high-profile advocate in many new forums. As such I’d like to offer him a warm welcome and many thanks.
In other news we recently received a further boost when a legal firm (can’t say which yet) recently offered us more than 5K in legal support. This will go towards our contractual negotiations with sites (ongoing at present) and legal oversight of our share offer document (also ongoing at present).

Given the affectiveness of Solar energy, why is it that Brighton & Hove Council are not promoting grants for all the flat roofed Regency buildings (that are now largely converted to single dwellings) to supply energy…any excess being sold to the National grid, naturally, once it’s paid for any installation costs not covered by grants…in fact why stop there…couldn’t Council owned estates be fitted with tiles?
OK, so the initial layout might be costly, but the long term benefits would be tremendous! Surely anthing to improve the planet for generations to come is worthy of consideration!
