Dear friends,

With polls showing a sharp increase in public concern over the environment,

Mark Rylance resigning from the Royal Shakespeare Company over its continued sponsorship by oil giant BP, and Theresa May declaring her intention to make it the law that Britain must reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, there’s never been a better time to go to the root of our current climate crisis: the need to rapidly phase out fossil fuels and keep the majority of known reserves in the ground.

Here in East Sussex the campaign to get East Sussex County Council to stop investing local people’s pensions in companies like Exxon and BP continues.

We now only need 700 more East Sussex residents to sign the Divest East Sussex petition to force a debate on the issue at County Hall.

Please email me at divesteastsussex@gmail.com if you can help gather signatures this Saturday (29 June) at either Hastings XR’s ‘Reclaim, Rewild, Rebel’ event in the town centre, the St Leonards Festival (12 noon – 10.30pm, in and around Warrior Square Gardens) or Brighton XR’s ‘Gathering the Whirlwind’ event in Brighton (12 noon – 7pm, The Level).

Best wishes,

Gabriel
