Cardinal Newman Now Produces Local Renewable Energy

Christmas came early for Cardinal Newman Catholic School in 2023, with 696 free Brighton Energy solar PV panels on 10 of the school’s roofs.  Our 348 kWp system, installed by newly certified B Corp Genfit, will produce 327 MWh of clean, green solar electricity each year.  The community-owned solar project will provide around 38% of the school’s electricity needs and save them approx. £7,400 a year at current rates. Not to mention the Xmas bonus of a 75,537 kg carbon saving of each year. That’s equivalent to 3,825 trees planted!

Why do schools choose to work with Brighton Energy Co-operative?

With almost 800 members more than happy to fund solar systems for schools and colleges we are an obvious choice. Educational organisations can reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills in a ‘hands off’ and fuss free manner, without having to put their hands in their own pockets.  Our 14 year successful  track record of setting up over 90 large scale solar projects gives them the confidence they need to switch to solar.   We survey, design, install and maintain the solar system for the life-time of the lease.
We can save schools, colleges and universities thousands of £s per year and help them reach their all important sustainability goals.
The community energy model also means that profits from the sale of excess solar electric stay within the local economy.  And with 2% of Brighton Energy’s revenue going into its Community Fund for free renwable energy education in the city even more boxes are ticked!
