The Woodhorn Group are a green waste composting site who produce compost to PAS100 specification including the manufacture of soil improvers and growing mediums.

The Woodhorn Group are in the process of switching diesel powered composting equipment to electric ones such as electric compost processing machinery, loading equipment, bagging machinery to further reduce their carbon footprint and maximise the use of the new solar array.

The business is also planning an expansion with more buildings and equipment in the coming year. This program of electrification matches the ethos of the company for producing an organic product from green waste. This also contributes to meeting their target of being carbon neutral by 2030 and reducing their reliance on fossil fuels.

The Woodhorn Group completed a 64kW solar PV installation for which they received £25,000 through our Community Solar Accelerator grant programme. They had a suitable South-facing fibre-cement roof which was ideal for maximising the output of the solar panels.

“The solar panels will also allow us to switch more equipment away from fossil fuels saving more money and emissions.

With this on-site solar electricity production, plus with the increasing use of this green electricity further reducing our carbon footprint, it will make the carbon target easier to achieve.

The grant funding was vital to us, this financially allowed the installation of the solar panels to be viable, with the cost pressures on businesses at the moment it paved the way for the project to go ahead.
